another Calliope award

Sun Oct 4, 2009, 5:11 PM
  • Mood: Triumph
I had "Gaulart + Maliclet Cafe" in last year's Calliope magazine, and we submitted that picture for individual judging to the South Carolina Scholastic Press Association. It won second place in the state!

We also submitted one of my spreads and it won first place. I'll try to get a copy of it to put on here. I have to say though, that what made that spread good was Sarah's picture. It wouldn't have been what it was without her photograph, so props to her, too.

There are wild little cameras here that use 115mm film (I think that's right). It's an odd size, whatever it is, and a little expensive (~$7 per roll). But the cameras are these funky little pinhole camera type dealies and I've been wondering if you wanted one or if the film cost was offputting.

Hmmm, I am interested...
I'd have to figure out where I could get it developed. Will it be possible for me to make friends with Hamilton and hang out in the darkroom without taking a class..?

Yes, it's possible. He's a very clever and honorable teacher, the kind that would rather allow a student to learn than adhere strictly to rules. Luckily for you you have a big fat icebreaker by just saying you're my sister and I want to thank him for his letter of recommendation and I miss him and am having a fantastic time in Japan etc. In any case I desperately recommend you take his class. Yakkun says hi and he's itchy.

Are all your pics film?

Do you develop yourself?

I'm so jealous if you do, wish I had the time and patience but digital is so easy...TOO EASY!

For the most part, the earlier half of my gallery is digital, and the second half is film, since I got my film camera last Christmas.
I have only a few up that I developed myself (and they're not very good, because it was my very first roll of film I ever shot), the rest I take to get developed. I absolutely love doing film, and wish I could develop them myself, but I don't have anywhere to do it!
I really prefer film to digital (even though I have no money to buy film and get it developed!). Maybe you could say I'm an old soul; it just feels more right to me than using digital.

I totally see what you mean.
I've decided to get myself a cheap holga toy camera to fool around with. My dad even has an old olympus from the 70s which hopefull I'll inherit..possibly this Xmas ^^

I looked up the Holga on wikipedia. I really want one now!
I love the old cameras from 60s/70s. That was the kind I really wanted, but my grandma gave me her Canon SLR (it's really nice though). Maybe one day when I save up some money I'll get an old camera off e-bay...

Yeah, thing is the Holgas are really expensive for what they are..I recommend getting a smena camera from russia on ebay. They cost roughly the same and are genuine old ones, (the Smena 2 is nice). I might get one...depending on whether or not I get my dad's ^^
